it’s nice to meet you!

For as long as she can remember, Ash Schlax has found words magical. Her relationship with them has grown and changed as she has: from eagerly turning the pages in childhood with each chime of her read-aloud cassettes, to making her own little books (complete with illustrations) as she grew older, to eventually (in a life she could only dream to live) pouring herself into lines of her own making—both in poetic forms and in prose. 

Her most beloved form of magic is poetry. Ash is an accomplished poet, with poems featured in Fathom Magazine, and work under her belt as the Poetry Editor for Owl’s Nest Publishers. Ash finds art nearly as magical as the written word, however, and she also works as a professional artist. She is an abstract artist, handletterer, and illustrator. Her artwork and design inspiration have graced the covers of many books. 

​Raised in the northeast, Ash now calls Arizona home, along with her husband, their three wonderful children, and their beloved cat, Samwise. When she is not writing, painting, or drawing, you can find her working as a Creative Director, homeschooling, tending to their little desert cottage, and always up for a cup of coffee and a good conversation.

Her debut book of poetry is coming out in the fall of 2026 with Owl’s Nest Publishers.
